Cesi Chapel

The Cesi Chapel is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria and was commissioned by Cardinal Federico Cesi around 1550. It was designed on a rectangular diagram and is interspersed by corinthian parastas and covered by a cloister vault. The lateral tombs depict reclining bronze figures of Cardinals Paul (left) and Federico Cesi (right). They were made between 1566 and 1570 by Guglielmo della Porta. The altarpiece depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (1566) and the frescoes above it were painted by Girolamo da Sermoneta.
